Your Leading Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA) Supplier

Zibo Amila New Material Co.,Ltd is a professional formates manufacturer and supplier in China. We adopted German equipment and technology in research & development, and production. Our products adopt advanced production processes to ensure the stability and high standards of product quality. Polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) is an odorless and tasteless, translucent, white or cream colored granular powder. It is used as a moisture barrier film for food supplement tablets and for foods that contain inclusions or dry food with inclusions that need to be protected from moisture uptake. Polyvinyl alcohol is classified into two classes namely: partially hydrolyzed and fully hydrolyzed. Partially hydrolyzed PVA is used in the foods.

Classification of Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA)

Partially Hydrolyzed PVA

Contains residual acetate groups (typically 87–90% hydrolysis), meaning some hydroxyl groups (-OH) remain unreacted. Soluble in water at room temperature due to hydrophilic hydroxyl groups, Commonly used in textile sizing, adhesives, and agriculture.

Fully Hydrolyzed PVA

Almost complete removal of acetate groups (≥98% hydrolysis), resulting in a high density of hydroxyl groups. Higher tensile strength and rigidity compared to partially hydrolyzed PVA. Excellent resistance to oils and organic solvents.Commonly used in synthetic textiles, medical and industrial coatings.

Features of Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA)

01

Water Solubility

One of the standout features of PVA is its solubility in water, which varies depending on the degree of hydrolysis and polymerization.

02

Film-Forming Ability

PVA can form strong, transparent, and flexible films.
Adhesive Properties: Its adhesive qualities are widely utilized in paper and packaging industries.

03

Chemical Resistance

PVA exhibits good resistance to oils, greases, and solvents, but it is susceptible to degradation by strong acids and alkalis.

04

Biodegradability

While not fully biodegradable, PVA can break down under certain conditions, making it more environmentally friendly compared to other synthetic polymers.

Application Scope of Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA)

Textile industry
In the textile industry, PVA is commonly used as a sizing agent to improve the hardness and wear resistance of fabrics. Slurry plays a crucial role in the textile process, increasing the gripping force between yarns, making the manufacturing process smoother, and improving the overall quality of the fabric. PVA has become an important component in textile pulp due to its excellent film-forming properties and adhesion.

Construction industry
In the field of architecture, PVA is widely used as an adhesive or coating component. As an adhesive, PVA can effectively enhance the bonding strength of building materials such as concrete and gypsum board, and improve the overall stability of building structures.
In the construction industry, PVA is also used to produce various waterproof mortars. PVA can significantly improve the waterproof performance of walls, preventing problems such as wall cracking and mold caused by water infiltration. The addition of PVA fibers can also improve the flowability and pumpability of mortar, enhance construction efficiency and quality.

Paper industry
In the paper industry, PVA, as a surface sizing agent and pigment binder, can significantly improve the strength, smoothness, and printing adaptability of paper. PVA has good film-forming properties and high film strength, which can effectively improve the wear resistance, folding resistance, and chemical resistance of paper, extend the service life of paper, and reduce production costs.

Pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry
In the fields of medicine and cosmetics, PVA is mainly used as a film-forming agent or thickener. Its good film-forming property makes PVA an ideal material for making facial mask, skin care lotion and other products. At the same time, the thickening property of PVA also helps to improve the texture and stability of cosmetics, enhancing the product's user experience and effectiveness

FAQ

Q: What are the precautions for polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)?

A: Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment. Avoid generating dust; fine dust dispersed in air in sufficient concentrations, and in the presence of an ignition source is a potential dust explosion hazard. Avoid inhaling gases, fumes, dust, mist, vapor, and aerosols. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing.

Q: What is PVA used for in construction?

A: PVA is used as a bonding agent for rendering or plastering. Most PVA bonds are multipurpose; meaning it can be used as an admixture for mortar and general use such as glass, tiles, dense concrete etc.

Q: Is polyvinyl alcohol corrosive?

A: PVA is one of them and it is one of the highly used anticorrosive polymers. PVA itself and its derivatives are widely used as corrosion inhibitors.

Q: At what temperature does PVA degrade?

A: Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) generally starts to degrade around 250°C (480°F), with significant weight loss occurring between 216 and 320°C.

Q: What happens to PVA when it dries?

A: When PVA glue dries, the water solvent evaporates, leaving behind the polymer chains that form the adhesive bond, which then hardens and becomes clear.

Q: How do you know if your PVA is bad?

A: ● The PVA is a yellow-ish color (or any color other than white)
● Foul odor (it will smell liked spoiled milk)
● Takes much longer to dry, or resists adhesion.
● PVA remans clumped or separated even after thorough mixing.

Q: Does PVA degrade over time?

A: PVA is designed to dissolve in water and it can biodegrade. However, the study shows that conditioners necessary for complete biodegradation of PVA are extremely specific. In order for PVA to fully biodegrade it requires the presence of very specific microorganisms and enzymes to aid in the degradation process.
